This touching poem on Motherhood was born from the depths of love, crafted originally for my mother on her birthday. This Mother’s Day I find myself missing her more than ever 17 years later yet holding onto cherished memories of our precious moments together. Today I honor her legacy and the timeless bond we shared through the heartfelt verses in “Distance too Far: A Young Girl’s Spiritual Journey.” 💖 #MothersDay #CherishedMemories #DistanceTooFar
When I think of motherhood
I think of my mother and what she has stood.
My life within the first few years
She filled them with joy and not with tears.
From the time I could read, she’d always say
Read your scriptures, honey, to start your day.
Of course, this made no sense to me
Until I was grown and now I see.
Whenever I was down and didn’t know what to do
Mom would pray and God would come through.
I can remember hearing her pray late at night
And she’d still be kneeling ‘til the morning light.
What I learned about God, of whom there is no other
Was taught to me by my dear mother.
Mom gave me the Bible and said read it well,
Because the word of God will keep you from going to hell.
I could go on, line after line,
But, these are the ties that truly do bind.
For a mother who has God first in her life
Will lessen the toil, trouble, and strife.
My mother has always been to me
An example of what I hope to be.
I thank my God who sits high above,
For giving me a mother who taught me how to love.
