I recently listened to a conversation between Gen Z and Millennials about how the older generation categorizes them as lazy or entitled. When they gave their perspectives, it was eye-opening. Their thoughts were that we worked jobs for 10 – 20 years, which gave them the opportunities they have now, but because of technology and social media, it allows them to be free to pursue their interests rather than do the traditional job or career paths.
Society in the ’60s was considered an anti-establishment culture. As we look at the trends of our time our parents looked at how we dressed and our hairstyles and are that not what we look at today to disregard today’s young people. Let us move past the negative and look at the progress being made. In each generation, there are movements and changes that go against the so-called norms.
As we come out of Covid, let us regroup and re-think, how to have a conversation with this generation without condemning. Instead, think about how we can be a part of the new movement to contribute the wisdom and knowledge that has been a part of our generation. Can we imagine the excellence of these times by coming together to make society a better place for future generations?
My thought is that “these young people may be the ones to give you that last glass of water,” I am sure we want to be a part of their lives before our lives are over.
What can you do to contribute to this conversation with the movement of the Millennial and Gen Z generation?
